Classification
Neolitsea cassia (L.) Kosterm. (1952)

- Neolitsea zeylanica (Nees & T. Nees) Merr. (1906)

Extrait du Linnaean Plant Name Typification Project :
- Laurus cassia Linnaeus
- Reference: Species Plantarum 1 : 369 (1753)
- Provenance: "Habitat in Malabaria, Sumatra, Java."
- Type: Type not designated.
- Current Name: Neolitsea cassia (L.) Kosterm.
- Comments: See Wight (in Hooker's J. Bot. 2: 340. 1840) for an extensive discussion. Kostermans (in Reinwardtia 4: 246. 1957) says this name is based on Hermann's specimens via Linnaeus' Fl. Zeylanica no. 146, and that they represent a mixture of Litsea zeylanica Nees and "the wild Cinnamomum zeylanicum". As they are evidently not part of a single gathering, Kostermans' subsequent treatment (in Dassanayake et al., Revised Handb. Fl. Ceylon 9: 164. 1995) of the Hermann material as the type does not comply with Art. 9.15 and cannot be accepted as a formal typification.
