Usages
The leaves contain the tea-tree oil or Australian melaleuca oil, which was obtained exclusively from wild stands. Recently there are also plantations in E Australia, from which the growing world demand can be satisfied. The major components of the oil are terpinene, cineole and limonene. It has a definite antiseptic activity. It is used mainly for medicinal and veterinary purposes, but also in the perfumery, for soaps and deodorants.
