Usages

Cultivated in Nepal and India. The seeds serve as a substitute of cardamom. They are used as a spice in curries, soups, sweets, sausage, and other meat dishes. The oil, obtained from the seeds by distillation, is used as spice and for medicinal purposes. Presumably other wild species are cultivated in India (Sikkim): Amomum linguiforme (Roxb.) Benth., A. kingii Baker, A. corynostachyum Wall.
