Usages
Le péricarpe du fruit contient une résine blanche au début, puis noire. Une fois écrasé avec de l'eau de chaux ("lime-water"), on utilise l'encre qui en résulte. Cette encre est insoluble dans l'eau et était utilisé pour marquer le linge avant lavage. Elle serait soluble dans l'alcool. Le marquage du linge provoque des dermatites chez les blanchisseurs et ceux qui portent ce linge.
Le fruit est très utilisé en médecine ayurvédique.
