|texte=Bois : jougs (LITTLE & WADSWORTH). Écorce : tannage ; donne une fibre ; pilée avec du sel, est cultivée en emplâtre pour foulures, dislocations (HONYCHURCH). Les feuilles contiennent un alcaloïde potentiellement dangereux (MARTIN & RUBERTÉ). Pilées avec les branches, les feuilles donnent une forte teinture bleue ou noire. Graines pulvérisées contre les poux (HONYCHURCH). Infusion pour la fièvre (HODGE & TAYLOR). Fruit comestible, sucré, serait un remède contre la dysenterie (GOODING and al.).

|texte= It has long been cultivated and is naturalized also in northern South America, southwards to Peru and Brazil. Now widely cultivated in tropical America, Africa and Asia; into tropical Africa introduced in the early 17th cent. In India the cultivated tree runs wild in many areas, especially around Calcutta. Also subspontaneous from the coast of Malaysia to the Philippines and Polynesia. The sweet fruits are eaten raw. They don't have the distinct aroma of the cherimoya or the sugar apple. Unripe fruits and the bark are used in the folk medicine. The pulverized seeds and leaves serve as insecticide, the young shoots and the leaves are used in tanning and dyeing black leather.
