Distribution
Indonesia: Sumatra.
Uses
The fruits are edible.
Observations
- Shrub or tree, up to 6 m tall.
- Leaves elliptic-oblong, 1-2 cm × 0.4-0.8 cm.
- Flowers bright scarlet, red or pink.
- Fruit a berry, 4-5 mm diameter, pubescent, blue-blackish.
In summit vegetation, alpine scrub, at 1700-3400 m altitude. Flowering whole year. A creeping dwarf form is called var. atjehense Sleumer.
