''Ochrosia'' s.l. comprises about 40 species and is found from the Mascarenes to the Pacific and Northern Australia including South-East Asia. New Caledonia is particularly rich in endemics.
== Uses ==
So far, only one ellipticine derivative, celiptium<sup>®</sup> (N-methyl-9-hydroxy ellipticine, as the acetate salt) has been introduced onto the market for treatment of metastatic breast cancer. This drug shows significant activity against leukaemia L 21210, leukaemia L 388, melanome B16 ependymoblastoma, lymphosarcoma of Gardner and tumour of Shay. Furthermore, it shows intermediate activity against pulmonary carcinoma of Lewis, and no activity against lymphosarcoma of Yoshida, lymphoma LLx 15 and myeloid.
