*A small to medium-sized tree up to 25(-35) m tall with bole up to 35 cm in diameter; leaves .*Leaves evenly distributed, narrowly obovate to obovate or elliptical to lanceolate, 9-32 cm × 3-12.5 cm, secondary veins diminishing until inconspicuous near margin, glabrous, stipules up to 2.5 mm long, caducous; flowers .*Flowers with sepals finely hairy on both sides, 8-lobed corolla glabrous except between the stamens, 16-18 stamens and usually glabrous ovary; fruit .*Fruit ellipsoid or ovoid, 2-2.5 cm × 1-1.5 cm, 1-seeded; seed .*Seed with thin endosperm and thick cotyledons. ''M. korthalsii'' grows in lowland rain forest up to 300 m altitude and usually occurs scattered.
