*A small to medium-sized tree up to 30 m tall, with bole up to 65 cm in diameter, buttresses low; leaves .*Leaves oblong, papery, 8.5-23 cm × 4.2-11 cm, with 9-12 pairs of secondary veins, lustrous, stipules up to 2.5 cm long; stamens .*Stamens 15, anthers broadly ellipsoid, with long, slender appendages, stylopodium spindle-shaped; larger .*Larger fruit calyx lobes up to 7.5 cm × 2.3 cm.  ''S. splendida'' is a fairly common riparian species of periodically flooded clayey alluvium.
