*A very large tree up to 60 m tall with bole up to 160 cm in diameter, buttresses up to 2 m high; leaves .*Leaves oblong, 13-20(-30) cm × 6-10(-12) cm, with a cordate base and 16-20 pairs of secondary veins, lower surface golden tomentose, stipules up to 25 mm long; stamens .*Stamens 15, anthers oblong with long slender appendages, stylopodium spindle-shaped; larger .*Larger fruit calyx lobes up to 23 cm × 3.3 cm.  ''S. mecistopteryx'' occurs locally on yellow sandy clay soils on low hills up to 400 m altitude. The density of the wood is 400-735 kg/m<sup>3</sup>at 15% moisture content.
