*A very large tree up to 60 m tall with bole up to 110 cm in diameter, buttresses up to 1.5 m high, bark laminated; leaves .*Leaves elliptical to ovate, 11-20 cm × 5.5-7 cm, with 11-14 pairs of secondary veins; stamens .*Stamens 15, anthers oblong with long and slender appendages, stylopodium cylindrical; larger .*Larger fruit calyx lobes up to 19 cm × 2.7 cm.  ''S. beccariana'' is common on deeply leached soils in the lowlands and on shale or sandstone ridges up to 1350 m altitude. The density of the wood is 520-800 kg/m<sup>3</sup>at 15% moisture content.
