The timber is used as nyatoh.

== Observations ==

A medium-sized to large tree, up to 35(-50) m tall, with columnar bole up to 80 cm in diameter, buttressed; leaves oblong to lanceolate, densely pubescent beneath; flowers up to 1.6 cm long, white to pale yellow; fruit ellipsoid, 2-3.5 cm long, shortly pubescent. ''P. maingayi'' is closely related to ''P.'' ''acuminata.'' It occurs scattered in lowland forest below 300 m altitude, occasionally in swampy forest. The timber is fairly heavy for nyatoh with a density of about 750 kg/m<sup>3</sup>at 15% moisture content.
