== Observations ==
A medium-sized tree up to 25(-30) m tall with bole up to 60 cm in diameter; leaves evenly distributed or loosely clustered at tips of twigs, lanceolate or narrowly elliptical, 8-27 cm × 2-8 cm, secondary veins diminishing until inconspicuous at margin, glabrous, stipules up to 3 mm long, caducous; flowers with sepals finely hairy outside and glabrous inside, 8-lobed corolla hairy outside and woolly between the stamens inside, 13-18 stamens and glabrous pistil; fruit ellipsoid, 1.5-2 cm × 1 cm, 1-seeded; seed lacking endosperm and with thick cotyledons. ''M.'' ''penangiana'' occurs on hills and mountains at 150-1200 m altitude, is locally common, and is closely related to ''M. laurifolia'' . The wood has a density of about 730 kg/m<sup>3</sup>at 15% moisture content.
