– Plants with stems up to about 3 m tall, 1–3 cm in diameter, green, with 4–10 cm long inflated internodes in the lower part (‘Buddha's belly bamboo’). This group is often distinguished as ''Bambusa wamin'' Brandis ex E.G.Camus.
=== ''Bambusa bambos'' ===''[[Bambusa bambos]]'' (L.) Voss (spiny bamboo; synonym: ''Bambusa arundinacea'' (Retz.) Willd.) is native to India to southern China, and cultivated throughout the tropics, including Ghana and Kenya. It has stems up to 30(–40) m tall with a diameter up to 18 cm. In Ghana the stems are used for construction. In South-East Asia they are important raw material for the paper making industry.
