Distribution
Northern Borneo.
Uses
The timber is used as yellow meranti.
Observations
- A medium-sized to large tree up to 45 m tall with bole up to 65 cm in diameter, buttresses up to 1.5 m high.
- Leaves oblong-lanceolate, 12-25 cm × 4-7 cm, thinly leathery, slightly bullate, with 9-13 pairs of secondary veins, lower surface shiny, petiole 8-15 mm long.
- Stamens 15, stylopodium narrowly conical.
- Fruit calyx lobes subequal, up to 7 mm long.
S. xanthophylla occurs on low clay hills and hillsides in mixed dipterocarp forest up to 1000 m altitude. The density of the wood is 575-755 kg/m3 at 15% moisture content.
