Distribution
Peninsular Malaysia, Lingga, Sumatra and Borneo.
Uses
The timber is possibly used as nyatoh or bitis.
Observations
- A medium-sized to fairly large tree up to 35 m tall with bole up to 100 cm in diameter.
- Leaves loosely clustered at tips of twigs, obovate to elliptical, 7.5-26 cm × 3.5-7.5 cm, secondary veins diminishing until inconspicuous near margin, glabrous, stipules up to 10 mm long, caducous.
- Flowers incompletely known, sepals finely woolly outside and glabrous inside.
- Fruit globose, 1-2 cm in diameter, finely woolly, 1-seeded.
M. erythrophylla is reported to be locally common in Peninsular Malaysia on low hillsides and ridges below 300 m altitude.
