- Used for making water botties and musical instruments; a special form with sweet fruits was grown as a vegetable (LYON 1821, NACHTIGAL 1879). Most of the material collected belongs to subsp. siceraria; according to their seeds the coll. nos. 43 and 8010 have to be classified as subsp. asiatica (Kob.) Reiser.
