Heritiera arafurensis Kosterm.

Vernacular names

  • Indonesia: korumu (Halmaheira), rorum (Morotai).

Distribution

The Lesser Sunda Islands from Lombok to Timor, the eastern Moluccas; possibly also Sulawesi and Irian Jaya.

Uses

The timber is occasionally used as dungun.

Observations

  • A large tree, up to 45 m tall with straight, and up to 20 m branchless bole, up to 50 cm in diameter, with large buttresses.
  • Leaves simple, densely scaly beneath, petioles 2-5 cm long, slender.
  • Fruit with a faint dorsal ridge and a small apical rudder-like wing, densely scaly.
