Distribution

Endemic to Peninsular Malaysia (Selangor, Pahang, Melaka).

Uses

Reddish scales of the fruit produce "dragon's blood"dye.

Observations

Clustering rattan, forming thickets 5 m tall. Stem without leafsheaths 20 mm in diameter, with sheaths 40 mm in diameter. Fruit scales encrusted with "dragon's blood" dye. Rather rare; found in lowland swamp areas at 50 m altitude. D. brachystachys Furt. might be merely an acaulescent form of D. propinqua .
