Distribution

The Philippines (Cagayan, Isabela, Pampanga, Rizal, Laguna, Tayabas, Mindoro) and Sulawesi.

Uses

The cane is used for basketmaking and tying.

Observations

Stem without leafsheaths to 25 mm in diameter, with sheaths up to 40 mm in diameter. Leaves cirrate, to 1 m long, long petiolate; leafsheaths armed with slender, needlelike spines; leaflets linearlanceolate, numerous, equidistant. Fruit very small, ovoid or subovoid, beaked. A very variable species. In primary forest at low and medium altitudes, up to 1200 m.
