Distribution
Papua New Guinea (Bougainville) and the Solomon Islands (Guadalcanal).
Uses
The timber is used for light construction, interior finishing, mouldings and veneer.
Observations
A medium-sized to fairly large tree up to 36 m tall, with bole up to 65 cm in diameter and buttresses up to 3 m high; leaves elliptical, c. 12.5 cm × 6 cm, glabrous, petiole up to 3 cm long; pedicels up to 4 cm long; fruit ovoid to ellipsoid, up to 15 cm long. B. sorei is sometimes confused with B. obovata , which differs in its usually larger, more obovate leaves withless fine venation and larger flowers. It occurs in lowland rain forest, usually on well-drained sites. The wood is fairly hard and heavy.
