Synonyms

Aglaonema pictum Ridley (1925) non (Roxb.) Kunth.

Vernacular names

  • Malaysia: mata bisul, mata hudang, selimpat ayer (Peninsular).

Distribution

Peninsular Malaysia, Singapore, Borneo.

Uses

The roots are used as a tonic for children and as an anthelmintic. The leaves are reputedly eaten as a vegetable. A. nebulosum is cultivated as an ornamental, also as a pot plant.

Observations

An erect herb up to 60 cm tall; leaves acute to obtuse at base, rarely variegated, margin of petiole sheath membranous; spathe globose, spadix clavate, about as long as spathe. A. nebulosum occurs in freshwater swamp forest and peat swamp forest.
