Observations
A medium-sized to large tree up to 45 m tall, bole branchless for up to 20 m, up to 150 cm in diameter, buttresses up to 3 m high, bark surface brown or pale greyish-brown, inner bark pinkish-brown; leaflets 11-13, subopposite, with 13-21 pairs of secondary veins, rugulose on both surfaces, shiny and glabrous above, below with few to numerous white stellate scales on the midrib and occasionally elsewhere; calyx with 3(-4) lobes, petals 3, anthers 17-21, style-head small, with 3 narrow longitudinal lobes at the apex; fruit dehiscent, 1-locular. A. penningtoniana occurs in lowland and montane rain forest, up to 1550 m altitude.
