Vernacular names

  • Malaysia: akar berenas, akar setebal, akar kechubong ayer (Peninsular).

Distribution

Peninsular Malaysia, Singapore, Sumatra, Java and Borneo.

Uses

The leaves have been used for a poultice on the head to treat headache.

Observations

A creeping herb up to 150 cm long; leaves broadly ovate to ovate-lanceolate, obtuse to subacute; corolla much longer than calyx, 4.5-7.5 cm long, bright red; seeds with 1 hair at each end . A. radicans grows in forests on trees and rocks up to 1750 m altitude, and is common in many regions.
