Vernacular names

  • Indonesia: pandjang umur (Dempo), bunga karang (Kerintji), kaju katjar (Gajo).

Distribution

Indonesia: Sumatra.

Uses

The fruits are edible.

Observations

  • Shrub or tree, up to 6 m tall.
  • Leaves elliptic-oblong, 1-2 cm × 0.4-0.8 cm.
  • Flowers bright scarlet, red or pink.
  • Fruit a berry, 4-5 mm diameter, pubescent, blue-blackish.
