Sources and commentaries
The standard form of white cabbage has whitish leaves and is very compact. Some forms have green outer leaves, and can bear other names, such as :
- English: winter cabbage, autumn cabbage
- French: chou vert
Winter cabbages traditionally grown in Western France have deep green and slightly crinkled leaves, and may be intermediate with savoy cabbages (Sabauda Group).
Cultivars with a big size, grown for industrial processing (sauerkraut) are included here. Cultivars with a pointed head are dealt with under Pyramidalis group.
- French
- In French, chou cabus includes red cabbage, but excludes savoy cabbage. Chou pommé includes both red and savoy cabbages.
