|texte= In several Asiatic countries (e.g. India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Indonesia, Philippines) and in Africa (Zaire) cultivated. Also in USA (Florida) and Georgia (Black Sea coast) experimentally cultivated. The roots are used medicinally. In India a new cultivar with high root yield and high seed germination has been developed. Wild distribution: India, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Andaman Isl., Myanmar, Thailand, Malaysia, Sumatra, Java.
