== Uses ==

The timber is used as white meranti. The tree yields a clear resin of good quality.

== Observations ==

A medium-sized to very large tree up to 60 m tall, with bole up to 175 cm in diameter and buttresses up to 3.5 m high, twigs compressed; leaves obovate, 7-15 cm × 4-8 cm, with 14-17 pairs of secondary veins, lower surface tomentose on the veins, dull grey, petiole 15-20 mm long; stamens 15, stylopodium absent; larger fruit calyx lobes up to 8 cm × 1.3 cm. ''S. virescens'' occurs on flat and undulating land on stoney or sandy as well as clayey soils up to 600 m altitude. The density of the wood is 380-630 kg/m<sup>3</sup>at 15% moisture content.
