Vernacular names

- Malaysia: balau membatu jantan, seraya batu (Peninsular).
Distribution
Peninsular Malaysia and western Sumatra.
Uses
The timber is used as red balau and is comparatively light in weight.
Observations
- A large tree with yellow-grey bole exceeding 100 cm in diameter and prominent but usually short buttresses.
- Leaves ovate to elliptical-oblong, base obtuse to subcordate, (4-)6-12 cm × 3.5-6.5 cm, with 13-18 pairs of secondary veins, lower surface scabrid pubescent.
- Petals narrow, stamens 30, the appendages with up to 5 bristles.
- Fruit calyx lobes unequal, larger three up to 7 cm × 1.5 cm.
S. ochrophloia is closely related to S. guiso and occurs locally on well-drained undulating land below 350 m altitude. The density of the wood is 705-960 kg/m3 at 15% moisture content. See also the table on wood properties.
