Vernacular names
- Brunei: mersawa durian
- Malaysia: mersawa durian, medang sawa (Peninsular), pengiran durian (Sabah).
Distribution
Peninsular Malaysia and Borneo (Sarawak, Brunei, Sabah).
Uses
The wood is used as mersawa.
Observations
- A very large tree up to 65 m tall, bole tall and straight, up to 200 cm in diameter, buttresses up to 15 m high, spreading out up to 4 m.
- Leaves 7-11 cm × 3-4 cm, oblong to obovate, rusty to golden lepidote beneath, with 10-14 pairs of secondary veins.
- Flower bud subglobose, stamens 15, stylopodium disk-like, glabrous.
A. laevis is widespread and is often common in inland lowland and hill forest up to 900 m altitude. The density of the wood is 510-815 kg/m3 at 15% moisture content. See also the table on wood properties.
