''Lovoa'' comprises 2 species, both confined to tropical Africa. It belongs to the tribe ''Swietenieae'' and is related to ''Entandrophragma'', ''Khaya'' and ''Pseudocedrela''.
=== ''Lovoa swynnertonii'' ===''[[Lovoa swynnertonii]]'' Baker f. occurs in eastern DR Congo, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zimbabwe and Mozambique, in rainforest up to 1500 m altitude. It differs from ''Lovoa trichilioides'' by its asymmetrical leaflets and hairy inflorescences, but is otherwise similar. Its wood has been used for similar purposes as that of ''Lovoa trichilioides''. ''Lovoa swynnertonii'' has been subject to heavy exploitation in many regions and is rare almost everywhere in its distribution area; it is listed as endangered in the IUCN Red list.
