Vernacular names
- Malaysia: nyatoh batu, nyatoh puntik (Sarawak).
Distribution
Borneo (Sarawak, Sabah, Kalimantan); possibly also in the Philippines.
Uses
The timber is used as nyatoh.
Observations
- A large tree up to 45 m tall.
- Leaves evenly distributed, obovate to spatulate, with inconspicuous, laxly reticulate tertiary veins often parallel to secondary veins, glabrous on both sides.
- Flowers in 2-4-flowered clusters, borne on very short pedicels about 1.5(-7) mm long, greenish-yellow or whitish.
- Fruit globose, subglobose or ellipsoid, 1-1.5 cm long, glabrous and green.
P. pseudorostratum grows particularly in freshwater swamp forest at low altitudes, but sometimes up to 1500 m. The timber is fairly heavy with a density of about 780 kg/m3 at 15% moisture content.
