Vernacular names

• Indonesia: bitis nyatu batu, nyatu kelincir (Kalimantan)
• Thailand: phikun dong (Pattani).

Distribution

Peninsular Thailand, the Riau Archipelago and Borneo.

Uses

The timber may be used as nyatoh.

Observations

• A medium-sized tree up to 25 m tall.
• Leaves evenly distributed, obovate to elliptical, with indistinct, slender, transverse tertiary veins, glabrous on both sides except lower side of midrib.
• Flowers in 5-11-flowered clusters, borne on 8-16 mm long pedicels.
• Fruit ovoid to obovoid or ellipsoid, 1-3 cm long, hairy but glabrescent, green.

P. dasyphyllum grows in primary forest, on soil overlying rocks and limestone; locally it is not uncommon. The density of the timber is 500-760 kg/m³ at 15% moisture content.
