Vernacular names

  • Indonesia: rotan jernang (Sumatra)
  • Malaysia: wi ondo (Sarawak).

Distribution

Sumatra (Jambi, Bengkulu), Riau Archipelago and Borneo (Sarawak, Kalimantan).

Uses

The cane appears to be of good quality. In Sumatra, "dragon's blood"dye is extracted from the fruit scales and sold in local markets.

Observations

Clustering rattan, to 15 m tall. Stem with leafsheaths 15 mm in diameter. Leaves cirrate to 2.5 m length. D. draco resembles D. micracantha (Griff.) Becc. Found in lowland primary dipterocarp forest.
