Distribution

Indo-China and Peninsular Malaysia.

Uses

In Penang (Malaysia) a leaf poultice is applied to broken bones.

Observations

A small tree up to 15 m tall, bole up to 40 cm in diameter; leaves alternate to opposite, elliptical to oblong, 7-18 cm × 3-6 cm, base cuneate, apex obtuse, glabrous, midrib raised above, tertiary venation distinct on both sides, petiole 1-2.5 cm long; flowers hairy; fruit oblong, c. 2.5 cm × 1.5 cm. B. tonkinensis is a coastal species occasionally found inland.
