Peninsular Malaysia.

Uses

The timber is used as merawan.

Observations

A medium-sized tree, bole with a diameter of up to 60 cm, with short buttresses or stilt-rooted, bark surface smooth; young parts puberulent; leaves elliptical, 9-18 cm × 3.5-9 cm, leathery, base cuneate, acumen slender, up to 1 cm long, glaucescent beneath in mature trees, venation scalariform, midrib distinctly elevated on both surfaces, secondary veins 12-15 pairs, slender but relatively prominent beneath, obscure above, with many distinct short veins in between; petals outside densely golden pubescent; stamens 15, ovary and stylopodium hour-glass-shaped, the ovary slightly broader, style short, tapering; 2 longer fruit calyx lobes up to 7 cm × 1.5 cm, 3 shorter ones up to 20 mm × 5 mm, linear-lorate, completely enclosing nut. H. glaucescens occurs in mixed dipterocarp forest below 500 m altitude. The density of the wood is 755-850 kg/m3at 15% moisture content.
