Vernacular names

  • Indonesia: lolin, lorin (Moluccas).

Distribution

Indonesia (Moluccas).

Uses

The ripe fruits are eaten raw or roasted; the taste reminds one of hard-fleshed bananas. The wood is beautiful but hard and difficult to work.

Observations

  • Dioecious tree, 15-25 m tall.
  • Leaves lanceolate to elliptical, 10-25 cm × 6-10 cm.
  • Flowers 4-5-merous.
  • Fruit a depressed globose berry, the size of an orange, yellow, flesh slimy-mealy.
  • Seeds 4-10.
