Differences between Pl@ntUse and Wikipedia

• You can publish original data, what Wikipedia does not allow.

• Wikipedia deletes some pages for "lack of notability". On Pl@ntUse, only the criteria of relevance and traceability are applied.

• Wikipedia aims to publish syntheses, where base data are condensed. We rather aim to publish such base data, be they original or already published, above all when their access is difficult.

• In Wikipedia, contents result from a negociation among contributors of any kind. This negociation is regulated by a complex system of different statuses given to contributors. In Pl@ntUse, our objective is to reach the best possible scientific quality. The exact procedures remain to be developed, but the choice to have certain pages signed by an author allows, if useful, to offer several pages on the same issue in order to present disaggreeing views.
