Vernacular names
- Indonesia, Malaysia (Borneo): durian munjit (Malay), durian hantu hutan (Dusun Dajak), sukang (Sungei).
Distribution
Borneo (Sabah, Sarawak, Kalimantan), occasionally also cultivated.
Uses
The aril around the seeds is edible.
Observations
- Tree, up to 20 m tall.
- Fruit an ellipsoid capsule, up to 20 cm × 15 cm, with stiff spines up to 2 cm long.
- Seeds brown, ellipsoidal, 3 cm long, each covered by yellow aril.
In rain forests of Borneo, up to 500 m altitude.
