Vernacular names

  • Papua New Guinea: manilkara.

Distribution

The Moluccas (Tanimbar Islands) and Papua New Guinea.

Uses

The timber is used for construction.

Observations

A medium-sized tree; leaves evenly distributed, glabrous; flower buds ovoid, pedicels not incrassate and slender, calyx up to 11 mm long, ovary with glabrous disk; fruit unknown. Although the timber of M. kanosiensis is reported to be exported from Papua New Guinea to Japan, not much is known about this species. The timber is heavy, with a density of about 1030 kg/m3at 12% moisture content. See also the table on wood properties.
