== Distribution ==

Native in South America (Brazil, Paraguay) where it is also cultivated. Introduced in the Philippines in the 1930s.

== Uses ==

The fruit is edible but insipid. The bark is used as an astringent.

== Observations ==

*Shrub or tree, 3-10 m tall.
*Fruit a pseudocarp, resembling the custard apple, 2.5-6 cm in diameter; rind obscurely reticular.
