Vernacular names

  • Indonesia, Malaysia: kundur tikus, timun tikus, pedendang tikus
  • Thailand: taeng-nu (Kanchanaburi, Chumphon)
  • Vietnam: câù qua.

Distribution

Thailand, Indo-China, Peninsular Malaysia, Java.

Uses

The fruits are edible. Fruits also used as a remedy against coughs.

Observations

  • Monoecious climbing herb, up to 4-5 m length.
  • Leaves entire to 3-5-lobed, 6-10 cm × 4-10 cm.
  • Fruit an ellipsoid berry, 1-1.5 cm × 0.8-1.2 cm, red.
  • Seeds numerous.

In hedges, thickets, scrub and forest edges, up to 1200 m altitude.
